Mr. Dalton Named VIC Coach of the Year!

leave a comment »

We are excited to announce that Michael Dalton has been named Coach of the Year by the VIC. Mr. Dalton has been growing the tennis program for seven years, ever since he started teaching at the Miller School of Albemarle. He says that each year the teams have improved and grown stronger, which is evidenced by their 6 and 2 conference record and their 7 and 3 standing going into states. This is the third year in a row where the tennis team has made conference and the second year in a row that the team has made it to the semi-finals.

Mr. Dalton says that he tries to approach coaching from a less intense direction; keeping the kids grounded and relaxed, he believes, allows them to play better. “I like to stay calm and let the kid feel the match. Encouraging and remaining composed allows them to enjoy what they are doing and often win. I love every team I’ve coached, and this year’s is no exception, they’ve been strong and worked hard.”

This year’s team includes two All Conference players, which will be announced during Miller School’s awards ceremony this week.

Congratulations Mr. Dalton, it’s obvious that you have been strong and worked hard too!

This Year’s Year Book Dedication Goes To Mr. France!

leave a comment »

Whether we have been here for six years or just one, we have all grown to love our newest and dearest headmaster. When we think of Mr. France what comes to mind is his obsessive love for Mondays and his ability to bring out the best in what is commonly considered the worst day of the week. His signature talks can be a little long, but always remind us of the strength of our community, and the importance of sticking together through thick and thin.

The class of 2011 would like to dedicate our yearbook to Mr. France, the man who runs more in one day than most run in a lifetime. Thank you for always sticking by us, and taking care of us. You have always supported us both on the field and in the classroom. You continue to be proud of your Miller students and we want you to know it is an honor to say you have influenced our lives. So, here’s to our biggest fan and our Monday loving headmaster, Mr. France.

Student Publishes Collection of Poems

leave a comment »

Ninth grader Andrew Bowman has published a collection of poems entitled “Recollection of a Poet” using Blurb.com.  His insight and creativity are fully unleashed in this 38 page poetry collection.  Please see the link below and consider supporting one of our own Miller School students.  We are all so proud of what he has accomplished at such a young age.  It has been a delight to work with him on this project and he has loved every minute of it.  ~ Alice Simpkins
